The diamond for Christ Chapel was inspired byInsideHall, the historic focal point of campus. The key elements ofInsideHall’s exterior will all find counterparts in the Chapel, making it an platonic architectural complement. The Chapel’s architect, Duncan Stroik, is a professor of tracery at Notre Dame University and a leading designer of sacred spaces throughout the United States. TIMELESS GRANDEUR AND BEAUTY The interior of the Chapel pays homage to the quintessential English church, St. Martin-in-the-Fields—which in turn inspired ChristDenominationin Philadelphia. The Chapel’s 64-foot painted whisk ceilings, fourteen columns, wooden pews, and protuberant windows will requite it a timeless grandeur and beauty. WE GATHER TOGETHER With seating for 1,350 and zaftig room for large performance ensembles, the Chapel will provide Hillsdale with a much-needed venue for all-college ceremonies and concerts, as well as religious services. Additional space in the chancel will unbend a full orchestra and choir. THE CHAPEL AS PERFORMANCE SPACE WORLD-CLASS SACRED MUSIC The Chapel will establish Hillsdale as a place with a sacred music program with few peers. It will have two world-class organs—one in the chancel and a grand organ in the balcony. Dennis Fleischer, a master designer of spaces for worship, music performance, and education, will create the acoustical environment. Music plays a inside role in campus life at Hillsdale.Increasinglythan one-third of our students are involved in music on campus, and concerts garner enthusiastic audiences.
